Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel has been included in both of our revised squads for the Premier League and Europa League.
Van Ginkel underwent knee surgery in July and has been on the sidelines ever since. He was not granted an opportunity to impress Maurizio Sarri, even though he may well be the goal-scoring midfielder that we have all been direly craving.
The Dutchman is on the mend and, fingers crossed, should be returning to full training with his Chelsea teammates within the next couple of months. We didn’t believe that Sarri would see him as a genuine option for selection, but we may have been wrong.
Van Ginkel has been named in Chelsea’s squads for the second-half of their campaigns in the Premier League and Europa League. There could be minutes for him to get under his belt in both competitions, especially later on in the season.
It’s unclear whether this is merely a formality or a lifeline for Van Ginkel, but it’ll at least provide Sarri with a healthy reminder that he does exist and is a talented midfielder. We’d love to see him pull on the Chelsea shirt before the 2018/19 season comes to a close.
