Chelsea have reportedly opened contract talks with talisman Eden Hazard, with the Belgian’s current deal having less than 18 months left to run.
There’s been a question mark over Hazard’s future at Stamford Bridge for some time now. His reluctance to sign a contract extension accompanied with his public flirting with Real Madrid has left Chelsea fans fearing that his time at this club will soon come to an end.
That’s a possibility that nobody wishes to entertain, but we have to accept it to be a genuine possibility. A misconception made by some Chelsea fans is that Hazard already has one foot out the door, but there’s no concrete information to support that idea.
In fact, Le10Sport have offered us hope in our efforts to keep hold of him. Chelsea are thought to have opened negotiations with Hazard’s camp over tying him down to a new contract. You’d have to think that this isn’t the first time we have tried over the past 12 months.
If we were the type to place a bet on a situation like this, we wouldn’t expect to have a definitive answer from Hazard until the end of the season. That is likely for the best, as our full focus should be on getting back into the Champions League qualification spots.
