Cesar Azpilicueta was reportedly involved in a heated debate with manager Maurizio Sarri following Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend.
We predicted that there would be a little unrest in the Chelsea dressing room following Maurizio Sarri’s post-match comments. Though many would argue it was justified, Sarri didn’t pull any punches while publicly criticising his Chelsea players’ mentalities.
Sarri will have done it in hope of provoking a reaction from the squad, and by the sound of things, he got one immediately upon his return to Cobham. The Times claim that Cesar Azpilicueta, who has captained the side this season, rushed to the defence of this teammates.
It’s claimed that a meeting was held in the Cobham dressing room, during which Azpilicueta locked horns with Sarri over his post-match comments. Willian, who has previous when it comes to falling out with Italian managers, also got involved in the feud.
Thankfully, it appears as though the matter was resolved swiftly and there are no hard feelings in the camp. Sarri is the type of character who will have appreciated the players who were brave enough to stand against him. This will have done Azpi no harm at all.
