Chelsea winger Willian is refusing to give up on winning the Premier League title, despite the fact that we head into the New Year 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have been near flawless this season. They’ve had sporadic luck with refereeing decisions and mishaps from their rivals, but few could deny that they deserve to be at the top of the table at this stage of the campaign.
Liverpool meet Manchester City this week in what could prove to be a crucial game in determining the eventual champions. The vast majority of football fans are hoping that Liverpool’s unbeaten streak will come to an end, but Willian may not be one of them.
In Willian’s eyes, it may be beneficial if both sides drop points, as the Brazilian believes that there is still a chance that he will win his third Premier League title this season.
Willian is quoted by the Metro saying:
“Yeah our target is to stay at the top. We know we cannot talk about the title, we know we are 11 points from Liverpool.”
“But we have to believe. In football, you never know. Even more in the Premier league. ‘So we have to believe until the very end, and we have to win games.”
Look, we know that there’s little chance we will overturn such a deficit, but if we aim for the title and fall short of that there’s a pretty good chance that we will finish the season in third or fourth. We’d be happy with that.
