Tiemoue Bakayoko has had a difficult start to life as an AC Milan player, but he appears confident that he’s finally finding his feet at the San Siro.

Bakayoko was shipped off to Milan following a dreadful debut season at Chelsea. The Frenchman left Blues fans wondering what on Earth we’d spent so much money on.

The Milan faithful must have been questioning why they even bothered taking him on loan while watching his first few performances for the Rossoneri. He was characteristically poor, but no longer…

The 24-year-old’s performance level has gone up a notch in the past few games, and he has offered some insight into why he is improving under Gennaro Gattuso.

Bakayoko is quoted by Milan TV saying:

“I did not get stronger when compared to a month ago. I was the same player you faced from the very beginning. I just feel better in the team right now.”
“I store tactical information more easily and I easily understand the position to hold in the field. I feel safer than a few weeks ago, it’s true, I needed to play to be so…”
“In small steps, I took my time, I knew it would not be easy, but I think we have seen a very good Bakayoko in the last few games. Now I can only improve.”

It’s highly unlikely Bakayoko has a future under Maurizio Sarri, so if nothing else, an upturn in performances leaves it looking more likely Milan will activate their buy option and help us recoup something close to what we paid for him.
