Danny Drinkwater could make his first Chelsea appearance this weekend against former side Leicester City, according to the London Evening Standard.
As per the London Evening Standard, Drinkwater’s transfer to Chelsea on Deadline Day saw Leicester receive a whopping £35M. The England international can begin to repay the Blues’ expenditure this weekend, as the London Evening Standard report that he is on schedule to feature against his ex-employers and make his Chelsea debut.
The London Evening Standard do note, however, that due to a lack of match fitness, it is unlikely that Drinkwater will start from the beginning, but rather will be named among the substitutes. He will have to wait until later in the game to get his first minutes in a Chelsea shirt.
The London Evening Standard anticipate that Drinkwater will be subject of boos from the home crowd, even if he doesn’t make it onto the pitch. He probably won’t care once he’s on the train home with the three points…
