- David Luiz’s future at Chelsea has been cast into doubt.
- Luiz is thought to be seeking more than a one-year deal.
- Should Chelsea make an exception for Luiz, Blues?
David Luiz’s future as a Chelsea player has been cast into doubt, despite his fantastic performance against Manchester City at the weekend.
Luiz proved exactly why he’s managed to have such a prolonged career at the top level, despite being so obviously flawed in the defensive phase. The Brazilian is one of few defenders who could have such an influential role in winning a game of this magnitude.
His excellent pass contributed to the first goal, with our second being a quite brilliant header from the 31-year-old. Unfortunately for Luiz, his importance to Maurizio Sarri doesn’t necessarily mean that he will stay at the club beyond this season.
With his contract set to expire in the summer, the Independent believe there is a real possibility that he doesn’t sign a extension.
Chelsea have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over 30, and Luiz is thought to be after a longer deal and a bigger commitment. Shall we make an exception for Luiz, Blues? Let us know your thoughts @TalkChelsea.
