The Daily Mail has today reported that Chelsea are set to offer a new contract, with £300,000 per week the figure which will apparently be on the table to try and get the Belgian to stay.
It’s a offer that would tempt any human being. You’re happy and settled in London, your family are happy, you’re loved at Chelsea. And the club want to give you a long contract as one of the top paid players in the world. Hard to resist no?
But let’s remember that moving to Real Madrid is Hazard’s dream, and one that he’s had for a long time. He’s soon to be 28, and if he signs this contract, he can all but wave goodbye to that Madrid dream.
The only reason he wasn’t able to get a move this summer was the two years remaining on his current deal. Come next summer, there will be just one year left, and he will be Real Madrid’s price range, with enough leverage to do what his countryman Thibaut Courtois did this summer in the same situation.
So now we enter the crucial phase. Does Hazard sign away his dream? Or does he carry on holding out for the move he’s always wanted?
