Gianfranco Zola is a Chelsea legend and always will be, but spouting bollocks like this to the press is going to do him no favours.
We’ve had enough of it this season. Maurizio Sarri making false promises over Callum Hudson-Odoi. Suggesting that he is on par with Willian and Pedro and will subsequently will receive the game-time he desires. It was all lies to convince him to snub Bayern Munich and remain at Chelsea. There’s never been any real intention to play him.
Now, Zola took Sarri’s press conference ahead of our clash with Manchester United on Monday, and he’s said more of the same about Hudson-Odoi. The former Chelsea mastermind is going to do his relationship with the fans no favours if he continues like this. Zola is quoted by the Guardian commenting on the topic of Hudson-Odoi:
“I want to stress this: there aren’t many 18-year-olds in Europe playing as many games as he is. There might only be one or two. But he’s playing. And, on top of that, he’s a player we appreciate and we believe is growing up. He has a bright future in this club.”
Yes, Gianfranco, but there aren’t many 18-year-olds in Europe on the same level as Hudson-Odoi. Jadon Sancho and Vinicius Junior are the only two that spring to mind, and they both got 80+ minutes in the Champions League this week. Hudson-Odoi came on in the 84th minute against Malmo. This situation is utterly ridiculous, and the lies don’t help.
