Pep Guardiola has broken his silence after Jorginho snubbed Manchester City to join Chelsea.
Jorginho becoming a Man City player appeared to be somewhat of a foregone conclusion. He, alongside Riyad Mahrez, were City’s top two summer targets.
Just as City thought that they had the deal in the bag, Chelsea swooped in and stole Jorginho from under their noses. It was both efficient and brutal from the Blues.
Chelsea’s gain is City’s loss. Jorginho is a one of a kind midfielder, and Guardiola will no doubt be frustrated to have lost him to us.
When discussing the move publicly, Guardiola almost commends Jorginho for following his heart and moving to Stamford Bridge. He also notes how good a player he is.
The Premier League winner is quoted by Standard Sport saying:
“My advice for all players is they have to go where they want to go, and in the end it would have been a mistake for him and for us if he’d decided to come here when he wanted to go with Maurizio and Chelsea.”
“English football receives an exceptional player. All the best for him.”
