Chelsea’s starting eleven for today’s crucial clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium has been confirmed.
Maurizio Sarri will have had a tough time deciding on his team for this one. As is often the case when we approach this stage of the season, every time to face a team in the top six, there is so much riding on the outcome of the game.
With Liverpool winning yesterday, City know that they need all three points if they are to return to the top of the Premier League. None of us want to see Jurgen Klopp holding the trophy come the season’s end – but we really need to win this.
Following Manchester United’s recent form, they’ve forced their way back into the mix for Champions League qualification. That’s knocked us down to fifth ahead of what is arguably the toughest fixture on the calendar. We have to get a result today.
Sarri has given Pedro and Ross Barkley the nod ahead of Willian and Mateo Kovacic. We would expect a more pragmatic approach to today’s game than we often see from our manager. Gonzalo Higuain starts through the middle once again.
The rest of the team essentially picks itself, with Antonio Rudiger coming back in for Andreas Christensen at the back. City go full strength, with former Blue Kevin De Bruyne starting behind the in-form Sergio Aguero.
Here’s how both sides lineup in full – it’s bound to be a cracker.
