Maurizio Sarri still does not believe that Chelsea are in the title race, despite defeating Premier League favourites Manchester City on Saturday evening.
The Blues overcome formerly unbeaten City thanks to goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz. Our second half performance in particular was the best football we have seen under Maurizio Sarri, and it certainly bodes well for the rest of the season.
However, despite the fact that we looked on par with arguably the greatest team in Premier League history, Sarri does not think that we will be able to beat them to the title this time around.
Following the match, Sarri is quoted by Goal saying:
“As I said, always as you know, I think the gap is impossible to cover this kind of gap only in one season.”
“One match – you can play one match, of course. Then in the competition of 10 months it’s very difficult to cover the gap. I think they are, at the moment, the best team in Europe.”
As much as we would all want our manager to come out and insist we will find til the end, Sarri’s realism will do us no harm. Next season is when we can really start thinking about challenging City and Liverpool, until then top four should be the objective.
