England is back under tougher restrictions after a significant surge in the number of coronavirus cases being reported. With London and surrounding areas experiencing strict tier-four measures, Chelsea have come forward to lend a helping hand as hospitalizations rise rapidly.
In such circumstances, club owner Roman Abramovich has made Stamford Bridge hotel rooms open to National Health Service workers. As England enters the third lockdown, the Copthorne Hotel rooms are available for those who might struggle to travel back home after late shifts mandated due to current pandemic circumstances. According to the club statement:
“Many of the medical staff will be working long hours and may not be able to travel home or would have to make long commutes at a time when the virus is so transmissible. The rooms will be initially available until the next government review in mid-February.”
The club will undertake the costs involved in accommodating health officials and workers on the frontline until next month.
This is not the first time the Blues have taken initiative as good samaritans, having already offered to assist back in March 2020 when the country entered its first lockdown. (Chelsea FC)
