The Blues got away with a narrow, but comfortable victory at Tottenham, thanks to a first-half penalty by Jorginho. The victory, however, came at the expense of Thiago Silva limping off due to a muscle discomfort – the details of which are unknown.
Chelsea now face a major setback with the absence of their main defender and leader at the back. He is now set to miss the next match against Sheffield United on Sunday.
Speaking to chelseafc.com on Silva’s condition, Tuchel said:
“It will be very tight for Sunday’s game with only two days recovery. It is too early to give diagnosis because I saw him very briefly with a big strap around his muscle. We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it. But I think for Sunday he is a big doubt.” (chelseafc.com)
Legitimate details as to what his injury is, is not out at the moment. From the looks of it, the injury may well be a soft tissue injury to the upper thigh – either quad or a possible hamstring.
Nonetheless, the German tactician was satisfied with the end result – securing much needed three points to go above Tottenham in the Premier League table. He said:
“In general, I am very pleased with the result, it is deserved. We were very good in the first half, very dominant and strong with the ball, good counter pressing and did not allow counter-attacks against one of the most dangerous sides.” (chelseafc.com)
Although, Thomas Tuchel did realize Chelsea’s timidity in the final third and voiced out his thoughts on his side’s inefficacy to kill the game off.
“We need to create more clear chances, this is the objective and the job from me. We lacked a little bit of precision in the box and composure to make it 2-0 and to score more goals and decide the match, so the second half was a bit hard. We will work to create more clear chances and to be more effective.” (chelseafc.com)
Chelsea now sit 6th in the table with 36 points, above Everton with a +7 goal difference and three points ahead of Tottenham. West Ham United sit two points ahead in the 5th place.
