Callum Hudson-Odoi’s afternoon at St. Mary’s stadium was short-lived as the attacker played only for about 30 minutes after coming on at half-time for Tammy Abraham, who was probably taken off in order to avoid aggravating the discomfort he felt during the match against Newcastle United last weekend.
Tuchel was unhappy with Chelsea’s performance overall, and more so during the second half, when Chelsea retained much of the possession but failed to find the back of the net.
When asked why Hudson-Odoi’s substitution wasn’t working for the team, Tuchel said:
“I was not happy with his body language and I was not happy with his attitude on the ball. When we lost possession I felt he was not ready and cannot give the energy that I wanted to have from him. It was a hard decision to make. Tomorrow it’s forgotten.”
The Englishman was taken off in the 76th minute for Hakim Ziyech, who himself failed to make any kind of mark on the game.
He has played 365 minutes in total, scoring none and registering one assist in the process – the third highest statistic by any attacker under the German’s tutelage, just behind Timo Werner and Mason Mount who have recorded 435 and 427 minutes respectively. (tranfsermarkt)
