N’golo Kanté’s stellar rise to prominence has certainly caught the eye of a few wealthy clubs around Europe. And as of recently, many sources were reporting that Chelsea FC was one of the most interested clubs in signing the French beast.
And when there are so many rumors cerculating about one topic or another, the people involved will certainly be forced to comment. And usually, manager prefer to rule out any future sale and hang on to their players like a very caring mother, but Claudio Ranieri has taken a slightly different approach:
“I think he should rest here – he is working very well but if some big teams arrive and they give us a lot of money, maybe we think about it,”
“It is speculation. For now our focus is on the pitch and these seven matches. After that, there is another season.”
This is not exactly a “come and get him” invitation. It more likely means that if someone is indeed getting him, it will not be cheap. Which is not very far from what the Frenchman himself said.
That being in mind, anyone looking to sign Kanté will have to consider the finances attached to a player who has only had one season of performances worthy of playing for an elite side, kind of like Costa when we signed him.
With yesterday’s performance from Loftus-Cheek, many would wonder if we really need another box-to-box midfielder, and the answer to that will be a definitive yes.
We will need someone with a bit of experience to be starting most of the time next season, while Ruben gets accustomed to playing first team football in a full time capacity, that is of course, if the youngsters performances are appreciated by the man likely to be our next manager, Antonio Conte.
So to sum up, we really need to go for Kanté, as long as the money is right. When it is not, we should probably look elsewhere then.
