Willian has admitted that he would not still be a Chelsea player if Antonio Conte stayed on as manager beyond this summer.
The Brazilian’s relationship with Conte deteriorated considerably towards the tail end of the season. He’s not shied away from making frosty comments about his former manager in the press. He also, as you’ll remember, covered Conte with emojis while celebrating our FA Cup win.
With Willian being linked with both Manchester United and Barcelona before the transfer window got into full swing, it came as a concern to many that Conte was still in charge. The Italian’s presence at Cobham could have pushed Willian out the door – as he has now admitted himself.
Willian was asked whether he would be at Chelsea right now if Conte remained as manager. He’s quoted by AS saying:
“No chance. No.”
“I’m here. I’m here because I want to play for Chelsea. I will only leave if Chelsea want me to go.”
At least he’s honest! Either way, Willian is here and it doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving any time soon – which is great news for us!
