Willian believes that Maurizio Sarri was right to criticise his players following our defeat to Spurs, insisting that there’s always room for improvement – even at this level.
Chelsea were undeniably awful at Wembley. The score line flattered us in many ways, had Spurs been more clinical in front of goal, and If Kepa Arrizabalaga wasn’t such a good goalkeeper, it could have got really embarrassing for us.
Sarri confirmed that following the game he called each of his players in for 1-on-1 meetings about what went wrong. He also publicly criticised N’Golo Kante, who was one of the poor performers on the day.
Willian, who has history of locking horns with our managers, is in agreement with Sarri on this particular topic. He’s quoted by the Telegraph saying:
“Always in football you have to improve, even when you are winning games. I think every player has to improve. Even when you play good, you have to continue, you must not stop. Not only N’Golo, but every single player has to improve.”
Fingers crossed we will see a reaction from the Blues against Fulham later today. Make sure you’re following our match coverage @TalkChelsea.
