Chelsea winger Willian has admitted that he doesn’t know why Ruben Loftus-Cheek was shipped out on loan during the summer transfer window.
Loftus-Cheek was kept behind by Antonio Conte has part of his first-team squad last term, but what initially appeared to be a show of faith from the Italian, actually proved to be halting his development.
The Chelsea academy product found game-time hard to come by, and a loan away from Stamford Bridge this time around was the most logical move. Crystal Palace provided the ideal destination, and he is thriving at Selhurst Park.
Following Loftus-Cheek’s man of the match performance against world champions at Wembley last Friday, former teammate Willian has questioned by Chelsea allowed him to go out on loan this season.
The Brazilian is quoted by ESPN saying:
“I don’t know why he is at Crystal Palace now. He has to come back!”
We know why, Willian
It is pretty obvious why Loftus-Cheek is out on loan. The idea of the loan system is for players to show what they can do when playing regularly and improve on all aspects of their game.
Loftus-Cheek has done that. We shouldn’t be criticising the club for allowing him to leave on a temporary basis, we should be commending them for helping him take major steps forward in his career.
