Chelsea striker Armando Broja has become the subject of strong interest from a number of top clubs this summer, and there’s a chance he could be sold on a permanent deal.
Premier League clubs such as West Ham and Everton have been linked with the striker, and it’s easy to see why. Broja is a massive talent and he has a really promising future. However, the essential point here right now is that he IS still very raw.
Last season proves that. Overall, you can say his loan spell at Southampton was successful, and for the most part it was. But how he dropped off at the latter end of the season and showed a lack of consistency, just proves that he is still very raw.
Now, he’s a young player so this is totally expected, but at the same time, this is the reason why I could see Chelsea allowing him to leave this summer.
Thomas Tuchel wants to see Broja in pre-season and assess him, but is he really going to be able to offer Broja the regular first team football that he desires now? No, that would be near impossible to offer at a club like Chelsea. And if you are Broja looking at all the attackers being linked with Chelsea this summer, that isn’t going to fill you with confidence, and I can’t blame either party for being unsure here.
Tuchel knows Chelsea have to win games, and to replace Romelu Lukaku with Broja for example, could be an excellent decision, but it could also be a risk, and a risk in this business could become cut-throat.
I rate Broja massively, but I wouldn’t be really angry if we decided to sell him this summer just as long as we put a reasonable buyback clause in the sale. But I’d only be doing that if Broja really didn’t want to go out on another loan move. The ball is in Chelsea’s court, and I can totally understand both sides of this argument.
