Chelsea youngsters get call up to England Squad

Prior to the start of the season, it was mixed reviews as to how successful the season would be for Chelsea. This followed on from Sarri leaving the club, on top of the transfer ban in place at present. Frank Lampard has now taken over and has continued to offer opportunity to youth players.

This would appear to be paying off as a number of these young players have produced on the pitch, which has led to a call up for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions. Mason Mount was the first of these to have broken into the England set-up and is also now a vital player for Chelsea. Tomori has also made two appearances in the Champions league this season, on top on his five Premier league caps. He has also picked up a goal in the process and appears to be yet another bright young talent to have come through the academy at Chelsea football club.

22 year old striker Tammy Abraham has been the real breakthrough player this season, which has led to him getting a new contract at the club. He has also made two appearances in the Champions league this season, scoring one goal. However, it is his record in the Premier league this season that has been remarkable.

Abraham has scored eight goals in eight appearances, putting him as the joint highest scorer in the league with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero. Many people believed that he would not be able to make the step up to this level following moving up from the Championship but he has dispelled all the doubts. The question will now be whether he can step up again on the international stage.
