Christian Pulisic had to wait a little longer than expected to make his Chelsea debut, but finally stepping onto the field against Liverpool, he impressed from the first whistle.
The American was called into action early, breaking up play down his side and bursting forward into Liverpool territory repeatedly.
He took a few knocks but ploughed on, and in the end got his reward when one of his penetrative lunges took him to the edge of the box. He was able to draw in enough defenders to free Olivier Giroud, and he released his teammate to open the scoring.
Along with the rest of the team, he faded in the first part of the second half, and he was substituted with twenty minutes to go. But he created a lot in that spell, and will only have helped his chance of playing for us from now on.
His speed and acceleration give us something new on the break, and his willingness to press makes him a good fit for Frank Lampard’s system.
We will see who starts this Sunday, but having only played 70 of 180 minutes so far, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the US international on the teamsheet.
