Being a great footballer is largely about having the ability in the first place, and getting better and better. However, having the right attitude makes up a lot of the programming to become one of the best around.
If you have the right attitude, desire, and mentality to succeed in life (not just football), your chances of doing so are increased immensely.
One player whose mentality can only be described as ‘elite’, is Chelsea’s new winger Christian Pulisic. The 20-year old United States international already captains his country, and has top level desire and leadership qualities.
Today, Pulisic joined Chelsea’s training camp in Japan, when he was originally still supposed to be on his holiday. This would be quite unusual as it is, but factor in he has just spent the majority of his summer playing for his country at Copa America, this really is an admirable move.
Chelsea have historically owned many players with strong mentalities and players who know the importance of wearing that shirt. But of late, this is something that has grown to be a rarity, and they’ve often had their mentalities questioned by supporters and even their own managers.
Pulisic’s actions will be a mouthwatering prospect for supporters who are desperate to see such top attitudes return to Stamford Bridge. But of course now the hope is that the man they already affectionately call ‘Captain America’, can do the business on the pitch as well.
