The multiple reports that are going around detailing our summer transfer plans all have one thing in common, they all say that new defenders will be the priority in the market for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel.
To be honest, I don’t even think that needs reporting. It is very clear that defenders will be our priority to address first this summer. We are potentially losing up to four of our key senior defenders, pretty much an entire backline. So, it goes without saying that these players will need to be replaced as a point of urgency.
However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t then move onto another pressing position – the midfield. Tuchel will be backed with subsequent financial investments this summer, as per the majority of reports. So, if we are smart enough, then we can certainly turn our attentions to the midfield as well, which is thought to be a very pressing position that Tuchel wants to improve and add to.
Jorginho could leave this summer, so could a handful of other players. So, there will be more spaces opening up in the squad as well as more funds coming back in, so it won’t be all spending.
It’s a big task ahead for our new owners, but I feel we can address the majority of our positions that we need to improve in.
