There was a hashtag going around social media over the summer created by Everton fans entitled #FreeZouma.

It even got trending at one point. The Toffees supporters were desperate to get Kurt Zouma back at Goodison Park, following an impressive season on loan there last season.

It’s not surprising, Kurt was simply a beast for them. It also resulted in a lot of Chelsea fans believing that he would be one of our best defenders this year, and it was like getting a new signing him coming back in.

These are thoughts that I shared, and thoughts that are fully justified.

Zouma had an absolute nightmare on his first game back for Chelsea. He was clumsy, shaky on the ball, and gave away a silly penalty.

But we need not worry. Naturally, Zouma just let the occasion get the better of him, does that all of a sudden turn him into a bad defender? Hell no.

He needs to be more relaxed, and confident in his own ability. He also needs to get used to his ‘new’ team mates and how the team plays.

But once he has settled back in and is confident in his own environment again, Chelsea will have an even better defender than the one who Everton fans have rated so highly from last season.

Zouma is a beast, he’s what Chelsea have been missing, mentality wise and physicality wise. We will very much be appreciating him once again this season.
