One argument for leaving Mason Mount at Derby next season

Mason Mount’s return to the Derby County team has sparked a massive revival for the Rams, who are shooting up the table after a rather tepid start to 2019.

They’ve been banging them in recently, with Mason alone grabbing a hattrick against Bolton at the weekend.

The turnaround has been noted by the Derby Telegraph, who take a close look at the midfielder’s strengths in terms of what he brings to the team.

They identify his “awareness” that helps him find “pockets of space”, making him “difficult to mark” as one of those top qualities.

The other is “his body shape on receiving possession”, which helps him to get the ball forward into attacking positions.

You can give a lot of thanks to the Chelsea academy for those qualities, but his manager Frank Lampard – who had similar strengths, must have had some influence.

There is an argument, on that basis, for leaving Mason with Frank another season, to glean as much as he can from him.

Then, maybe the two of them can make the move to Stamford Bridge together in a year?
