Thomas Tuchel has arrived at Chelsea, changed the formation, rotated the personnel, and has started to breed his own style of play into the team.
So far so good for the German boss, and his rotation of players even seems to be working well.
Interest being shown in Kurt Zouma, find out more here.
That point is important, this article is not saying that Tuchel must pick and stick with this front three from now on, because this will create unhappy players, and tired players. We must rotate and use as much of the squad as possible.
But for me, right now, our best and most dangerous front three is this…
Kai Havertz in the false 9, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount in the wide 10 positions behind him.
This is not a reactionary piece after Havertz’ great performance last night. I’ve been calling for him in the false 9 or in an advanced central position for some time now, as I wrote about recently.
Many others have said the same, this isn’t some hot take that I am laying claim to. Many of us remember just how good he was in these positions for Leverkusen before we signed him.
So for me, I would build our attack around him as the focal point, ideally in the false 9.
Then our two other most dangerous attackers of the moment are clearly Hudson-Odoi and Mount for me.
Hudson-Odoi showed again what he is capable of doing in those advanced positions against Everton last night, and along with Christian Pulisic, he is our only real attacker who is so direct and confident to take people on and head for goal.
Pulisic hasn’t been playing really, so he has been unable to build any momentum or confidence, but I a far from writing him off here.
Timo Werner I have enjoyed his work rate and his pace, that is always a danger to defenders. But for me he is missing too many clear cut chances, that’s why he would miss out in our best three in attack right now.
Hakim Ziyech I have expressed some concerns over because despite his undoubted talent and beautiful left foot, I am unsure if he is built for the Premier League, he is knocked off the ball too easily.
But of course, it would be stupid of me to write him off right now and I am far from doing so.
Then you have the two strikers Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham, who both bring their individual assets, and will always bring you goals. However, their consistency has lacked and they aren’t shouting to me to be picked as the best three options right now.
Mason Mount has been Chelsea’s best and most consistent player over the last couple of seasons and under Tuchel he is improving even more. So his inclusion is a no brainer.
I think the link up between him and Hudson-Odoi shines and is clear to see, they have a natural aura between them and can read each others games well, they really compliment each other.
Havertz has already proven that he enjoys playing with this pair, and I would have him as the middle man linking play and dropping deep leaving space in behind.
This has the makings of a classic attacking trio…
I do agree the front three of Kai, Hudson and Mount is best my particular favourite up to now so I think Tuchel could go for this, but it needs Havertz to keep producing and one of the three to make consistent runs behind the defense to still keep that… Read more »
