There was times last season where I, amongst others, had some doubts whether Kurt Zouma would grow to be the defender we knew he could be, and the one we had seen playing regularly at Everton.
I get the sense that Zouma is the type of player that needs to feel important, needs to feel the love from the fans, and the trust from the manager.
Chelsea were very dodgy at the back last season, and Zouma certainly had his off-games. But overall, he has really stepped up to become a very important player for Chelsea and for Frank Lampard, even more so this season.
Not only is he putting in solid and consistent performances on the pitch, his over contributions off the pitch have seen him showing a lot more leadership and desire to win games.
He has always been a real character, but right now he IS Chelsea, he knows what it is to BE Chelsea. He has picked up a very important role at the club this season and I feel we could be witnessing a future captain of the club.
Zouma has stepped up exactly when Lampard needed him to. He has put himself head and shoulders ahead of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Fikayo Tomori, and he has really cemented down that centre back spot alongside Thiago Silva.
The French international has been part of a defence that has kept four clean sheets in the last five matches, and you can just see he is playing with a different kind of confidence and moving with a different kind of swagger.
He finally feels essential to the club, and he finally feels at home at Chelsea.
