Chelsea have reportedly offered Todd Kane a new deal, but Derby are in the mix. Here’s how we think is the best way to deal with this situation.

According to the Times, forgotten right-back Todd Kane has been offered a new contract by Chelsea, but has rejected our proposal, with Derby County in the mix.

This is obviously a difficult situation, as Kane could realistically be playing under Frank Lampard whichever route he chooses to go down this summer.

Time to go, Todd

Kane ought to avoid deluding himself into thinking Lampard’s interest in signing him for Derby means he would have a chance of playing under him at Chelsea.

All due respect to him, but he’s not Chelsea standard, and at 25-years-old it’s unlikely he’ll ever be. The Championship is his level, at least for now.

If Lampard were to include a ‘wildcard’ option in his squad at right-back, we’d be much better off giving those minutes to Reece James – not Kane.

Quite evidently, the best move for all parties would be if Kane chose to depart, for Derby or any other interested party. He needs somewhere to settle.

What do you think, Blues?

Well, you should stop being judgemental & let the lad make his own choice. If he stays & does well, good for us. If he stays & fails to make an impact, it is on him. Who are you to call someone ‘not good enough’ sitting behind a laptop?
