Chelsea are continuing to be linked with bringing in a new centre back when the transfer window opens again.
There have been a host of names mentioned, many more than I can even remember. But it looks likely that Frank Lampard is at least considering adding to his back line when he is able to do so.
Of course, they already have four centre backs on the books in the senior squad, so if he is to sign a new one, surely this means one of the current options will be sold or loaned out.
Lampard looks to be linked with wanting to bring in a dominating and more experienced centre back, one whom will command the box and organise the back line – something that none of his current options are really doing right now.
So who would make way?
The academy graduate started the season playing every game, and he was fantastic, arguably Chelsea’s best defender for a long while. But when Antonio Rudiger came back in after his injury, and Andreas Christensen started to stake more of a claim, Tomori dropped from 1st choice to 4th and has looked nervous ever since.
If he does go, it will only be on loan.
The Danish international is currently largely considered as the best all-round centre back that Lampard has, certainly the best with the ball at his feet. I think he is pretty safe as Lampard has warmed to him more and more over the season.
Has been a constant pick for Lampard since returning from injury, which probably says that the Blues boss does rate him. But he is also probably the one main centre back that fans collectively have the least confidence in.
He has had some very shaky moments, but is certainly the most physical and dominating option that Lampard has right now. We haven’t seen the Zouma of Everton yet, and I don’t feel that Lampard’s confidence in him is too high.
So what do the fans think? Here are the results of a poll I conducted recently, simply asking them who they would sell.
The results are pretty clear…
Chelsea are reportedly after a new centre back in the summer. My question to you is, who are you selling to make room?
