Just two days into the January transfer window and Antonio Conte has brushed away rumours surrounding Giorgio Chiellini joining Chelsea, The Express reports.

Reports had circulated in the past about Chiellini joining his compatriot at Stamford Bridge. These rumours were put to bed when the centre-back spoke to Sky Italia, confirming he is close to signing a new deal at the Italian giants.

Conte even believes that his former player will retire at the Serie A side.

The Express quotes Conte saying:

“Giorgio is a good player but he’ll want to finish his career at Juventus. It’s right to finish his career in this way.”

Will Chelsea sign a centre-back this month?

David Luiz

With David Luiz’s time at Chelsea in doubt, it’s no wonder several centre-backs have been linked with a move to the champions.

There’s no doubt Chiellini would have been a fantastic addition to our squad but Conte may prioritise signing attacking players.

Whether or not the club will look to strengthen in this area remains to be seen.
