Atletico Madrid are set to make their move to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa, according to the Mirror.
The Mirror believe that Atletico will offer an initial £26M in exchange for their former centre-forward, which the tabloid note is £6M less than Chelsea paid for him back in the summer of 2014. The Mirror do, however, report that performances related add-ons will see the Blues all-but make their money back on the Spain international.
However, there is one, potentially major, issue. As the Mirror report, Atletico are banned from signing players this transfer window, and thus Costa would not be able to join up with Diego Simeone’s squad until January. It is reported that AC Milan were keen to take the 28-year-old on loan, which see the problem solved, but his wage demands mean a deal is unlikely to materialise.
It is reported by the Mirror that there was prior interest from the Chinese Super League, but Costa is not thought to be keen on a move to the Far East. This whole situation, to put it plainly, is an absolute mess.
