Are Chelsea preparing for the departure of golden-glove winner Thibaut Courtois?
The Times reported earlier this week that Courtois has failed to agree terms over a contract extension with Chelsea due to his £200,000-a-week wage demands. The Times noted that there are no further talks planned.
Chelsea now appear to be in the market for reinforcements between the sticks. Sport Witness cite Spanish newspaper Marca in reporting that the Premier league champions are interested in signing Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.
Sport Witness write that Chelsea will have no problem meeting Rico’s £26.2million release clause. You would think that if we spent that kind of figure on a new goalkeeper, he would not be joining to sit on the bench – rather to provide competition for, or even replace, Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois is one of the very best goalkeepers on the planet, and would be a huge loss if he left this summer. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he decides to stay put.
