Antonio Conte appears to be in the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea are interested in signing AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy.
Mendy was a cornerstone in the Monaco side that lifted the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years. His superb performances for Les Monegasques have reportedly attracted plenty of attention from the Premier League.
L’Equipe report that Chelsea are joined by Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool in the hunt to secure Mendy’s services, as well as La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.
If Chelsea are genuinely interested in signing the 22-year-old, there is no doubt that we can compete with any of the aforementioned sides financially.
Marcos Alonso remains our only natural option at left-wing-back, so that is an area that Conte will likely look to reinforce this summer. However, only time will tell if the Italian will turn his reported interest in Mendy into a concrete proposal.
