Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, report the Mirror.
Fabregas has played a huge role in recent successes for Chelsea, but the time may well have come for the Spaniard to depart.
The role he is playing in the squad at the moment is as Jorginho’s deputy. It’s unclear whether he would be willing to accept that long-term at this advanced stage in his career.
Fabregas is out of contract at the end of the season, and according to the Mirror, a return to his native Spain could be on the horizon.
The report claims that, along with Serie A side AC Milan, who currently house Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko, Atletico Madrid are also keen on securing Fabregas’ services.
Fabregas could still be an influential player in the midfield of a top side. The Spanish game does suit the qualities he possesses, so a move to Atletico would be logical.
Fabregas leaving would be emotional for all Chelsea fans. It would likely mark the end of what has been a glistening career in the Premier League for him.
He’s made his mark, he’s won it all, and it might be time for him to say his goodbyes.
