Chelsea are reportedly prepared to lose Thibaut Courtois without receiving a penny in exchange.

How have we allowed ourselves to get into this situation?

This information comes from the Daily Mail, who claim that Chelsea are prepared to sell him this summer if we can replace him before the window shuts.

If we can’t, though, we’ll keep hold of him until his contract expires and allow him to leave the club on a free transfer.

The prospect of losing one of the world’s best goalkeepers on a Bosman is something than none of us want to entertain, but nor is going into next season with Willy Caballero as our number one.

Ordinarily, you could be forgiven for resenting Courtois for backing us into a corner in this manner. This time it’s different, though.

He’s not an Alexis Sanchez, in the hunt for more money. Nor a Robert Lewandowski, craving a continuous flow of silverware.

Courtois’ family live in Madrid. That’s real. If he does depart, there’s no hard feelings from us.
