If we are to believe the reports coming out of Italy today, Chelsea are set to miss out on yet another top transfer target this summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Alvaro Morata is poised to become AC Milan’s 11th signing of the summer with the Spanish international said to be just ‘a step away’ from switching Madrid for Milan.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spaniard was reported to be cautious about a move back to Italy because of his links to former club Juventus.
Sky Sports reported that a move to Stamford Bridge was an alternative for Morata, with Chelsea also thought to be keen on signing him.
However, after being reassured about the club’s ambitious project, the striker is reported to be excited by the prospect of playing for Milan, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
If Morata does move to the Italian giants, it will be the second time this summer that Antonio Conte has tasted defeat in the pursuit of a top striker.
As was reported in the Telegraph at the beginning of the month, Chelsea’s Italian manager had been very interested in signing Romelu Lukakau this summer. But, the London club were pipped to the post by Manchester United who signed the striker last week.
If Morata does join AC Milan, Conte has very few options left to pick from.
