Chelsea are locked in a two-way battle with Liverpool to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to The Sun.

As per The Sun, both clubs have already contacted Aubameyang’s entourage over the possibility of signing him this summer. The Gabonese international is thought to be valued in the region of £65M.

The Sun believe that Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign Aubameyang, with the pull of former boss Jurgen Klopp said to be a decisive factor. However, it is reported that the Reds are unwilling to meet his £180K-a-week wage demands, which will offer Chelsea plenty of encouragement in their pursuit.

Antonio Conte, as per The Sun, has been informed that he will not be provided with a new striker until the situation surrounding Diego Costa’s future is resolved. That appears to rule out any official move for Aubameyang… for now.

The Sun note that Chelsea are unlikely to sign Real Madrid hitman Alvaro Morata this transfer window, so Aubameyang may well be one of the few viable options remaining.
