AC Milan are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, it’s been confirmed by the club’s sporting director.
Fabregas still has plenty to offer and is a useful player to have around the camp. We thought that the Spaniard would thrive in Maurizio Sarri’s possession based system, and he has, but only when he has been given the opportunity to start.
Cesc is firmly second fiddle to Jorginho, and that’s not going to change. The former Napoli man is the beating heart of Sarri’s midfield, and it’s difficult to think of a player anywhere in the world who could come in and displace him.
For that reason, Fabregas may have no choice but to depart. He’s coming to the end of his time at the top level, he needs to make the most out of it while he’s still capable.
AC Milan would provide an interesting option for Fabregas, in a league where he has never previously competed. Their interest in signing him appears, genuine, too, as sporting director Leonardo has confirmed.
Leonardo is quoted by Standard Sport confirming AC Milan’s interest, while noting that they are unsure whether the move would be plausible due to financial constraints:
“We evaluated it, considering the possibility, but didn’t go all in. We are still evaluating the conditions.”
