There is still speculation circulating on Twitter that Galatasaray are interested in signing Chelsea captain Gary Cahill.
Maurizio Sarri appeared to suggest that Cahill has a future as a Chelsea player during his pre-match press conference on Friday, but question marks still remain.
Cahill will be 33-years-old in December. With the emergence of Andreas Christensen and Ethan Ampadu, would it be wise to allow him to take first-team minutes away from our younger players? Perhaps not.
He has also noticeably declined, which he can be forgiven for considering his age. Though he has achieved so much here, from a purely footballing perspective, Cahill shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting eleven.
If he is hoping to still play regular first-team football as he enters the swansong of his career, Galatasaray may be about to give him an opportunity to do so.
The only mention of their interest came out of Turkey, but never reached the English press. The rumours are still being circulated on Twitter, with journalist Mootaz Chehade also noting their interest.
Galatasaray have also spoken with Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaia regarding the proposed transfer of defender Gary Cahill. They are very keen to strengthen at the back and they have until September 1 to complete the deal.
