Chelsea’s Premier League title defence ended some time ago. It ended unjustifiably soon.

The powerhouse that Antonio Conte created last time around, has been timid and toothless this term.

Having defeated Hull City to progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, Chelsea do still have a realistic shot at winning silverware this season.

However, even the truest Blue would admit that we stand little chance against Barcelona in the Champions League (though, nor did we last time) – and the league title is heading to Manchester.

We cannot afford to allow ourselves to replicate these shortfalls next season. We need to look to the transfer market in order to strengthen our squad ahead of 2018/19.

Here’s three players that we ought to be tracking as the summer transfer window draws closer.

Antoine Griezmann

As reported by 92min, Griezmann’s buyout clause now stands at £92M. Considering his undeniably world-class ability and the inflated nature of the current transfer climate, that may not be a bad deal at all.

We need to recruit players who would complement Eden Hazard’s ability in attack if we want to avoid the Belgian jumping ship and joining Real Madrid in the summer. Griezmann could be the answer.

Luke Shaw

The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea are considering a move for Shaw in the summer – we think it’s a great idea.

Shaw has raw, untapped potential, that under the right manager could be harnessed for the benefit of the team.

It may seem like a strange one considering we only signed Emerson Palmieri in January, but look at how Manchester City have opted to stockpile talent; it’s worked wonders for them.

Leon Bailey

Bailey is going to be a superstar, that is clear to see. He is perhaps the frontrunner for the Bundesliga player of the year award at just 20-years-old.

If are correct and our interest in the Jamaican is genuine, we may well stand a fighting chance. Chelsea fans dug up a tweet of Bailey’s from some time ago which appeared to include him dreaming of life at Stamford Bridge…

That’s good idea.
