Chelsea may be set to suffer defeat in their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Danilo, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

As per Di Marzio, Premier League champions Chelsea made a move to sign the Brazilian on Sunday. Signing a new right-back this window would make sense, as Victor Moses is currently our only viable option on that side of Antonio Conte’s defence.

However, one of the Blues’ Premier League counterparts appears to have swooped in and stolen him from under our nose.

Di Marzio believes that Manchester City have leapfrogged Chelsea in the race to sign the Real Madrid defender, and are now in advanced talks over signing him.

It was only a few days ago that Man City announced the capture of Kyle Walker from Tottenham, but Pep Guardiola does not appear to be resting on his laurels.

As for Conte, he may well have to look elsewhere in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
