It looks as though Chelsea will suffer defeat in the race to sign Southampton centre-back Virgil Van Dijk.
According to the Mirror, the Dutch international will join Manchester City when the transfer window opens on July 1st.
It is pretty simple why Van Dijk is off to the Etihad, opposed to Stamford Bridge, according to the Mirror – the tabloid believe that Man City offered an incredible £60million in order to get the deal over the line.
The Mirror report that Van Dijk will earn £200,000-a-week over five-years in a Man City shirt, and will become the most expensive defender in the world.
There is no doubt that Van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, but the numbers being reported by the Mirror are absolutely preposterous.
As the Mirror report, £60million transfer fee and £52million over the course of his five-year deal – for £112million, you’d expect to be signing one of the very best players in the world.
