Maurizio Sarri has revealed his belief that Chelsea need to sign two players this January, but stopped short of confirming which positions he would be looking to strengthen.
Sarri’s transition into life in the Premier League has been tough. Chelsea started the season with a lengthy unbeaten run, but rode their luck at times and we never felt that we were truly capable of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
Having had our unbeaten run stopped in its tracks against Tottenham at Wembley, Chelsea have gone on to lose two more to Watford and Leicester City, games in which we dominated possession throughout.
Sarri’s team is not yet capable of a title push, and while he doesn’t believe that we are a million miles away, he has publicly stated the need for Chelsea to sign two players before the end of the month. He’s quoted by the Mirror saying:
“As you know very well I am not in control of the transfer market. In my opinion we need two players, but then it is up to the club.”
“As you can understand, I cannot tell you where. The club knows my opinion. My opinion is important for the club, but I cannot tell you my opinion.”
We can only speculate that it’ll be a midfielder to replace Alvaro Morata and a striker to brush aside the misfiring Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud. Sarri faces a nervous wait to discover whether Marina Granovskaia will deliver.
