Chelsea’s sporting directors are going through a lot of questions about their squad right now, and one of the biggest will be about Liam Delap.
Signed a year ago for £30m, many people thought Chelsea had picked up a bargain as a backup striker. Instead he struggled so badly that there is already a lot of talk about him leaving, just 12 months later.
Delap wants to stay and fight – Chelsea might not let him

Bobby Vincent’s piece for Football.London has some interesting insight on the status quo. He says that “sources close to the centre forward insist he wants to fight for his place” next season.
However, the decision isn’t only down to him. Everton have “explored the possibility” of signing him, and we suspect that if a good deal (either for a loan or a permanent deal) came up, the Blues would take it.
It will also hinge on what offers the Blues get for their other strikers – Emmanuel Emegha, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu are all seemingly available at the right price.
In other news…
As well as Delap, Nicolas Jackson’s future remains the subject of much debate – and there’s an update today claiming that he’s closer than ever to returning to Chelsea.
Reece James has broken his silence on the departure of Marc Cucurella, the first Chelsea player to speak in public about what a loss that could be.
