Cesc Fabregas looks to have little sympathy for former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked on Wednesday having agreed to become the new Real Madrid manager.
In a bizarre turn of events, Lopetegui was dismissed by the Spanish FA just a day before the World Cup opening ceremony. La Roja were considered one of the favourites to win the competition, now they have no idea who their manager is going to be when their first fixture takes place on Friday.
If I were a Spaniard, I’d be extremely concerned. Fabregas is, but isn’t. Instead, the Chelsea midfielder, who cemented his place in the banter hall of fame by tossing a slice of pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson’s face back in 2004, took to Twitter to laugh at the news.
In reply to Gary Lineker’s initial tweet that Fabregas will have plenty to say on his punditry debut with the BBC, the 31-year-old joked that he might get a call-up in Lopetegui’s absence. Class!
Wait, maybe I get a call up now! https://t.co/4InwsavXZa
