It’s been a long time since Chelsea were a really reliable team you could count on to win every week.
There was a period when Thomas Tuchel was in charge where we reached that level – we went into every game against lesser sides confident we would get the job done, and into every game against top teams feeling we had a very good chance if we played to our level.
Since then, despite having our moments, we’ve simply never had that consistency. We started last season with a great run, but it fell apart at around this time. This season our best run of games without defeat was followed directly by a run of 4 games without a win.
For all the good players we have, we still lack the experience needed to find consistency week after week.
That means that betting on Chelsea’s progress in the months to come would be as exciting as cricket betting, where hours of steady progress can be changed in the split second delivery of a single ball.
Right now the Blues are in an EFL Cup semi final and in position to qualify for the Champions League knockout phases. They’re in the mix for the top 4 in the Premier League, and the FA Cup has yet to kick off.
As it stands, you can’t rule Enzo Maresca’s men out of any competition. It’s hard to see them winning the Premier League, but as long as they stay in touch with the leaders, a single good run could put them right back in the mix.
A cup feels far more likely, however. The EFL Cup is anyone’s to win, with a very solid final 4 lining up to compete in the two-legged semi finals in the New Year.
Meanwhile we start our FA Cup campaign against Charlton around the same time, knowing that just 5 wins takes us to the final in that competition too.
Maresca is of course hoping that he can compete in the league and Champions League, but a domestic trophy would still represent good progress this season, and a bet on the Blues to lift one of the true might be a smart one, given how good we can be on our day.
It would also add an extra injection of excitement to these next knockout games at the start of 2026. So why not give it a go?
