All the talk about Chelsea bidding for Granit Xhaka which exploded over the weekend distracted from the deal that had dominated the preceding days – the big money move for Maxence Lacroix.
That still looks like it’s very much on the cards, and Bobby Vincent’s piece for Football.London has us convinced it’s just a matter of time.
“Chelsea remain in talks with Crystal Palace over defender Maxence Lacroix,” the journalist wrote.
“The Blues have identified the France international as their No.1 defensive target this summer and made an official enquiry last week.”

Sources insist, however, that Chelsea haven’t yet sent an official bid for the defender as they aim to figure out how much it would take to buy him.
Let’s hope that “official enquiry” gave them something solid to go on. As much as signing someone like Xhaka could help Xabi Alonso’s project get off the ground, signing a top central defender is an even higher priority.
We want to see progress made on this move this week, and there’s no reason to doubt we could see just that.
