Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto has dismissed rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea after admitting that he is very happy with his position in the Barcelona, reports the Express.
As per the Express, Sergi Roberto had grown worried about his place in the Barcelona team after getting limited game time during Barcelona’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Moreover, with BBC Sport reporting that the Catalan giants are actively pursuing Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, the Express report that the young midfielder was assessing his options with Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly interested in bringing the versatile midfielder to England.
However, speaking after Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis at the weekend, the 25-year-old spoke out about his future and his desire to remain at Barcelona.
“I’m happy,” Roberto said to the Express. “[Against Real Madrid in the Super Cup] I was happy on a personal level and I felt comfortable today, too. I played in my favoured midfield position.
“I started at the Bernabeu and the coach has given me confidence. I’ve scored today and I want to be important. In preseason I wasn’t starting, but now in the official matches I am playing more. I want to continue here and continue like this.”
With just under two weeks to go until the window slams shut, this will come as a setback to Antonio Conte who will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his Chelsea squad.
