Claude Makelele has offered some words of wisdom to Chelsea’s player of the year N’Golo Kante. Speaking to Goal, the former Chelsea midfielder has asked the Frenchman to tone down his relentless sprinting so that he can conserve his energy.
“He can’t run like that for 90 minutes. I think he will one day need to change the way he plays. He could use his intelligence even more, be selective about his runs. It is important for him to understand to conserve his energy.”
“He is still young, when he is older, he will understand how to change the way that he plays.” he said to Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella
Makelele revealed to Goal that Kante will need to reduce his pace so that he can have enough stamina to play in the Premier League and Champions League as well in the same week.
Goal note that the Chelsea legend notes that Kante loves to run and is very clever on and off the ball. He believes that the former Leicester City man is good enough and mobile enough to cover for his midfield partner too.
Chelsea’s Champions League campaign kicks off on September 2nd, while the Carabao Cup is also not far away. While Kante might be rested for the League Cup games, he will likely be the first name on the team sheet for the Champions League matches.
We don’t imagine he’ll be doing any less running!
